Instagram Hiding Like Counts
If you are an avid Instagram user, then you may have already heard if not been affected by their tests when it comes to Instagram hiding like counts. However their most recent announcement states that creators will now be given the option as to whether they would like their like counts public or if they would prefer to hide them.
Instagram/Facebook came to this decision following the feedback on their initial announcement. When first announced, the feedback was very split, with some praising Instagram and others expressing concern regarding what this means for problematic posts, measuring trending/popular topics as well as if this would trigger any algorithm issues.
What Happens Now With Instagram Hiding Like Counts?
Not only will you be given the option to hide like counts on your own content, you will also be able to hide the likes you see on posts on your feed.
If you wish to take full advantage of this new feature, you can do so by going to your account settings, followed by “privacy” and “posts”. At the top of the screen you should then be able to see a section for “likes and view counts,” where you can turn this on or off.
Instagram have stated that they are working with external third-party experts in effort to find more ways they can improve their policies whilst giving their users more choice. This likely means that the option to hide likes is the beginning of a big shift within the platform, so it’s worth watching for what is yet to unfold.
